Russia confirms its submarine surfaced off the coast of France

The Russian Black Sea Fleet has confirmed information that the Novorossiysk submarine surfaced off the coast of France.

This was reported by hromadske with reference to Russian media.

However, Russia denied that its B-261 Novorossiysk submarine surfaced precisely because of a malfunction. The Russian Black Sea Fleet claims that the submarine’s crew is carrying out a planned inter-fleet transfer after completing tasks as part of the permanent operational formation of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea.

At the same time, the military does not specify what tasks they were performing.

The Russians also stated that, according to international shipping rules, submarines can only pass through the English Channel strait in a surface position.

Earlier, the NATO Naval Forces Command said that they had spotted a Russian submarine, but assured that the situation was under control. The network suggested that the submarine surfaced due to a technical malfunction.

Earlier, USM reported that a Russian research vessel was spying on Europe’s undersea cables.
