Canada imposes new sanctions against Russian naval fleet

Canada has imposed additional sanctions against Russia. 13 individuals, 11 entities and 100 vessels of the “shadow fleet” have been hit by restrictions.

The sanctions were imposed on Wednesday, November 12, the press service of the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The new sanctions are expected to hit energy revenues, financial partners, and reduce Russia’s conventional and hybrid military capabilities.

Sanctions have also been applied to 100 vessels of the so-called “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation. The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that these measures are a direct response to Ukraine’s priorities and support the ongoing G7 efforts to increase economic pressure on the Russian Federation.

The sanctions list includes 13 individuals and 11 organizations, including several involved in the development and deployment of the Russian drone program.

In addition, Canada has for the first time imposed sanctions on organizations that supply cyber infrastructure used in Russia’s hybrid strategies against Ukraine. Several liquefied gas plants, including Arctic LNG 2, have also been sanctioned.

In general, the new restrictions are coordinated with recently announced sanctions by the US, EU and UK.
