Foreign ships will be inspected in Russian ports: what is known

The Russian government has ordered all port operators to check foreign ships for explosives. The FSB will issue a permit for a ship to dock.
According to the procedure approved by the government, within an hour of receiving a request for a ship to dock, the port captain must notify the FSB and provide information about the last ten ports the ship has visited, Ukrinform writes.
After that, within 48 hours, the FSB must either allow entry into the port or refuse. In this case, the special service may require an inspection of the underwater part of the hull.
The port operator is responsible for organizing the inspection, which, in turn, has the right to demand compensation for the costs from the shipowner. The inspection itself must be carried out by divers using appropriate equipment, and the army and special services are responsible for disarming any explosive devices that may be detected.
Such measures began to operate in the ports of North-West Russia in the summer, and now they have also begun to be implemented in the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin.
According to Rosmorrichflot, in 2024, foreign vessels made a total of 26.7 thousand calls to Russian ports. The average cost of inspecting the underwater part of a vessel is 300 thousand rubles, but some ports have raised the price to 1 million rubles.
