Indian operator of world’s largest refinery to resume Russian oil imports in February

India’s Reliance Industries Ltd is set to resume Russian oil purchases in February and March after a month-long hiatus.

According to Reuters, Reliance last received Russian oil in December after the company secured a one-month “concession” from the United States that allowed it to wind down operations with sanctioned Rosneft after a Nov. 21 deadline.

Like other Indian refiners, Reliance will buy Russian oil from non-sanctioned sellers, the sources said, without specifying the number of shipments booked for February and March.

It is also unclear whether the private refiner will continue buying Russian oil after March. Despite Reliance’s return, India’s overall Russian oil imports are expected to remain low in February and March.

Reliance previously imported Russian oil under a long-term deal with Rosneft for 500,000 barrels per day for its 1.4 million barrels per day refinery in Gujarat.
