Russia delivered LNG to China from the sanctioned Arctic LNG-2 for the first time since the beginning of the year

Russia has delivered the first shipment of liquefied gas from the sanctioned Arctic LNG-2 plant to China this year.

The first LNG shipment of 2026 from Russia’s sanctioned Arctic LNG-2 plant has been unloaded at China’s Beihai LNG terminal, Reuters reports.

The Buran gas carrier was loaded with liquefied gas at the Saam floating storage facility near the Russian port of Murmansk. The vessel then set sail for China’s southwestern Guangxi region via the Suez Canal. This route was used by ships bound for Arctic LNG-2 due to winter restrictions on the Northern Sea Route along Russia’s Arctic coast.

According to LSEG, in 2025 the Arctic LNG-2 project shipped 23 cargoes (1.3 million tons of LNG) to China’s Beihai terminal.

LSEG data also indicates that the ice-class Arc 7 vessel “Alexey Kosygin” arrived at the sanctioned plant for loading.
