Spill recorded in the port of Chornomorsk after Russian shelling

After the Russian shelling, a spill of sunflower oil was recorded in the waters of the port of Chornomorsk.
This was reported by the State Environmental Inspectorate of the South-Western District.
On April 26, as a result of the shelling of the city, the infrastructure of the sea commercial port “Chornomorsk” was damaged. During the fire, a tank with a capacity of 6 thousand tons of sunflower oil was destroyed.
The services of the Black Sea branch of the State Enterprise “USPA” promptly localized the consequences of the accident. Barriers were installed on the territory to contain the spread, and the storm sewer was blocked to prevent product residues from entering the aquatic environment.

State inspectors examined the scene during their visit. No soil contamination was recorded, since the area has a concrete coating. At the same time, an oil leak was detected in the port waters. A spot with an approximate size of 400 by 200 meters formed on the water surface. To contain it, boom barriers were deployed.
The inspection took samples of sea water for laboratory tests. The results of the tests will allow us to determine the actual level of pollution and prepare a calculation of the damage.
The final assessment of the damage to the marine environment caused by the armed aggression will be carried out after receiving the full amount of necessary data.
We will remind you that at night the Russian Federation again attacked a civilian ship and the ports of Great Odesa.
