Zelenskyy called on OSCE countries to stop tankers of the Russian shadow fleet

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on European countries to stop tankers of the Russian shadow fleet and create mechanisms for confiscating Russian oil.

He said this in an address to participants in the 33rd session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA).

According to the president, the efforts of the Ukrainian military on the battlefield should be supported by sanctions, in particular restrictions against the Russian oil industry.

Zelensky stressed that European seas remain a critically important route for exporting Russian oil and financing the war against Ukraine.

“If it is blocked, Russia will lose the ability to finance this war. Therefore, every country that stops tankers of the Russian shadow fleet makes a real contribution to ending this war,” the president said.

He also called for the creation of legal mechanisms in Europe that would allow the confiscation and sale of oil from detained tankers of the shadow fleet.

Earlier, Ukraine stated at the IMO that the vessels of the Russian “shadow fleet” are legitimate military targets.
