Sulina Canal to be closed for four days due to bad weather

The bad weather may increase the queue, as about 90 vessels are currently waiting at the entrance to the Sulina Canal.
This was reported by Kateryna Kononenko.
According to her, due to the worsening weather, the canal will be closed to shipping for the next four days. At this time, the queue will actually stop. About 20 more vessels are waiting to leave the Danube. The situation may be further complicated by vessels with priority status, due to which the queue for entry may increase.
Despite the autumn rains, the water level on the Danube has not increased significantly. On Friday, a draft of up to 6.78 m was recorded in the Izmail region, however, official restrictions remain unchanged.
The maximum safe draft at Sulina is 7.01 m, at the mouth of the Bystre – 5.5 m. In the section from Izmail to the 44th mile it is 6.7-6.8 m, from the 44th mile to Reni and Galati – 6.7 m, and on the Galati – Breila route – 6.4 m.
USM previously reported that waiting at Sulina could cost a vessel $160,000 for 40 days.
