Bulgaria to reconsider vessel routes due to Vera Su incident

After the incident with the vessel Vera Su, the Bulgarian authorities will reconsider the routes of movement of vessels in their coastal zones and will try to restore the marine rescue service.

This was announced by the Minister of Transport and Information Technologies of the country’s government, Hristo Aleksiev, writes TASS.

According to the Minister, the authorities will reconsider the routes of passage of vessels, which now pass very close to the coast. The procedures for conducting rescue operations and their technical support will also be reconsidered.

“In difficult weather conditions, we managed to save people, the vessel, and protect the environment, despite the fact that the owner of the dry cargo vessel wanted it to sink. The insurance company will cover all the costs of carrying out the rescue operations, otherwise a lawsuit will be filed,” the Minister added, thanking the participants in the rescue operation.

As a reminder, on September 20th, in the Black Sea, off the coast of Bulgaria, the vessel Vera Su ran aground due to a navigational error. The dry cargo vessel transported fertilizers from the terminal of the Odesa Port Plant (Pivdennyi Port) to Varna. Nobody was hurt during the incident.
