Mariupol port lost UAH 35 million in a year
The Mariupol Commercial Seaport finished last year with a loss of UAH 35 million (USD 1.2 million), against UAH 55 million (USD 1.89 million) profit in 2020.
“2021 started off well, with profit for the usually troubled first quarter amounting to UAH 14 million (USD 482.7 thousand). April also became profitable, but in May, cargo handling began to decline, and the company worked with minimal profit. In June, the volume of steel products, which traditionally is the main cargo flow, decreased significantly, to 320 thousand tons. As a result of serious negotiations with suppliers, the management of the enterprise managed to level the situation, so that in August the volume of steel products increased to 480 thousand tons, in September – up to 560 thousand tons,” said the Acting Director of SE “MCSP” Igor Barsky.
According to him, at that time energy products became much more expensive, which hit the economy of the port. The exchange rate difference also affected the company’s profits.
It turned out that the Mariupol port transshipped 250 thousand tons of cargo more than a year earlier, but ended up with a loss of UAH 35 million.
This year, the state stevedore plans to gradually increase its capacity, and the main event in 2022 will be the launch of a grain terminal, Barsky noted.
Regarding financial indicators, the expected profit for 2022 is UAH 25 million (USD 862 thousand), the wage fund is UAH 570 million (USD 19.6 million).
