Ukraine needs to win back the south before winter in order to maintain the access to the Black Sea

Ukraine needs to regain its territories in the south in order to deprive russia of the opportunity to seize the entire Ukrainian coast on the Black Sea.

The United States warned Ukraine about the need to take advantage of the situation and free the occupied territories in the south before winter. Otherwise, russia will be able to gain a foothold on captured borders, reports the Financial Times.

Chris Murphy, a Democrat from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said that Ukraine should continue to use its advantage on the front. He believes that the “source of strength” for Ukraine is access to Odesa.

“In the long term, it will be a disaster for Ukraine if russia can cut off its access to the water area from Mariupol to Odesa. Therefore, it is important to maintain an offensive position, and not only to conduct a defense in the south,” said Murphy.

According to military officials and analysts, Ukraine can liberate Kherson by mid-November. A representative of the US Ministry of Defense reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have already advanced to the northeast of the city and are entrenched on the Dnipro River.
