NATO strengthens protection of underwater infrastructure after sabotage on the “Nord Streams”

NATO countries are strengthening measures to protect critical underwater infrastructure facilities. This is related to the explosions at the Nord Stream gas pipelines last September.

Sabotages on russia’s Nord Streams proved the importance of protecting underwater critical infrastructure. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Stockholm, Ukrinform reports.

He noted that until the completion of the official investigation, it is too early to draw conclusions about who exactly is behind the organization of explosions on gas pipelines.

“What we know is that there was an attack against the Nord Stream pipelines, an act of sabotage. But we were not able to determine who was behind these actions. National investigations are ongoing, so it’s worth waiting until they’re finished before jumping to conclusions. We also know that it demonstrates the importance of protecting critical underwater infrastructure. We have thousands of kilometers of gas and oil pipelines, power grids, and Internet cables. All this infrastructure is of critical importance for our societies,” the NATO Secretary General commented.

According to him, NATO and allied countries have stepped up efforts to protect underwater infrastructure. In particular, a specialized structure was created at the NATO headquarters to coordinate efforts and exchange information in this direction between the Allies of the Alliance, as well as to share experience with the private sector – the companies that own this infrastructure, to minimize risks and increase the level of protection of critical objects. objects

As previously reported by USM, on March 7, the Office of the President of Ukraine denied the involvement of Ukrainains to the sabotage on the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
