A bulk carrier with Ukrainian grain ran aground in the Suez Canal

Work continues to tow the bulk carrier Glory after it ran aground in the Suez Canal on Monday morning.

“The maritime rescue team professionally dealt with the sudden technical failure of the engine of the bulk carrier Glory, which was on its way from Turkey to China. Currently, work is underway to tow the vessel,” the Suez Canal Administration reported on Twitter.

The vessel loaded 65,970 tons of corn from the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk on December 25 and was heading to China, the Istanbul Joint Coordination Center of the Black Sea Grain Initiative reported.

“Another 21 ships heading south will soon resume their transit. Only minor delays are expected,” Leth shipping agency said.

The Suez Canal is one of the world’s most important waterways, its 120 miles carrying 30% of the world’s container traffic and 12% of all global trade worth about $1 trillion annually.
