A corruption scheme related to the “grain corridor” was exposed in Odesa region
Officials of the State Production and Consumer Service in Odesa region demanded bribes from grain exporters.
The corruption scheme was established by the officials of the State Production and Consumer Service in the Odesa region. Grain exporters paid them money for quick and unhindered obtaining of phytosanitary certificates, the SBI reports.
In order to hide the operation of the scheme, the officials identified separate commercial enterprises, which, under the guise of consulting and fumigation services to exporters of grain crops, acted as intermediaries in receiving bribes.
Searches are conducted at the place of work and residence of the persons involved. Currently, money from illegal activities, documents and other physical evidence have already been seized. Officials are being prepared to report suspicions, they face imprisonment for up to 10 years with confiscation of property.
