Aid will be sent from Ukrainian ports to African countries

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy initiated a new humanitarian program Grain from Ukraine at the G20 summit.

Yesterday, November 15, the G20 summit began. President Zelenskyy spoke at it with a call to provide the state with adequate security guarantees. One of the key issues was the coordination of the further work of the “grain” corridor.

On the initiative of Ukraine, an international Coordination Group for the prevention of hunger is being created, the humanitarian program Grain from Ukraine is starting to work, which will be implemented in partnership with the World Food Program (WFP), the President said.

Ukraine will direct part of the harvested wheat to purchase for those African countries where there are already problems of hunger. Part of the export grain can be purchased by the states participating in the project. Ukraine will supply grain to poor African countries. The program aims to provide agricultural products to at least 5 million people by the end of spring 2023.

Together with the German government and with the support of the WFP, the first Nord Vind grain truck has already left for Ethiopia. There are 27,000 tons of wheat on board the ship. This is the amount of food for almost 100,000 people per year.

“Food security is the basis of the stability of the world order, and Ukraine is ready to remain its guarantor. By fighting and destroying traditional supply chains, the Russians have brought at least 70 million people around the world close to starvation. In order to prevent famine in many countries of Africa and Asia, it is critical to prevent a decrease in the volume of Ukrainian exports and to provide an opportunity to stabilize the situation,” said the head of OP Andriy Yermak.
