Finland will allocate 5 million euros to support the “grain initiative”
The Government of Finland will allocate another 5 million euros to the World Food Program (WFP) to support the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
Finland allocates 5 million euros to the World Food Program to support the grain initiative. Thanks to Finland’s help, WFP buys grain in Ukraine and delivers it to African countries affected by the food crisis, the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“Through WFP, Finland supports both Ukraine and countries affected by the food crisis. “Ukraine will receive the necessary income, and countries suffering from grain shortages and high prices will receive much-needed grain,” Minister of Cooperation and Foreign Trade Wille Skinnari said.
Finland supported the implementation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative last year by financing the supply of grain from Ukraine to Somalia.
The Black Sea Grain Initiative facilitated the shipment of more than 18 million tons of grain and other food products from Ukraine from June 2022 to January 2023. The majority of Ukrainian wheat (65%) and about half of the corn was exported to developing countries, the department noted.
