Freight rates in Ukrainian ports remain stable

Freight rates for the transportation of grain by water transport from the ports of Great Odesa and the Danube remained at the previous level.

Freight rates for transportation of grain from Ukraine remain stable, although minor changes are observed in some segments. This was reported by ASAP Agri analyst and Atria Brokers freight broker Pavlo Lysenko.

Slight growth is seen in the Handysize and Coaster segments, while panamax and barge rates remain virtually unchanged with minimal fluctuations.

In the “handy sizes” segment, freight rates for vessels transporting corn from deep-sea ports to the east coast of Italy rose by $1-2/t, reaching $21-22/t.

Demand for grain shipments in the “burners” segment has increased this week, making the market more congested. However, there remains enough tonnage in the market to cover this demand, so rates for most destinations remained unchanged.

Rates for “kosters” transporting corn from Ukrainian Danube ports to the east coast of Italy have increased by $1/t and now amount to $26-28/t.

This week’s panamax rates show mixed trends. The cost of freight for the transportation of corn from deep-sea ports to southern China decreased by $1/t, stopping at the level of $48-50/t.

Low demand continues on the barge market, which has a negative impact on shipowners. However, rates remain stable due to sedimentation problems on the Danube River. The freight for the transportation of corn from the ports of Reni or Izmail to Constanta remains at the level of 10 €/t.

As USM wrote, Ukraine exported 7.5 million agricultural products since the beginning of the marketing year.
