The crew of the tugboat M/S Alpo, which took part in the Normandy landings in 1944, has embarked on the final leg of its charity voyage.

The tugboat is currently on its way back to Oulu (Finland), according to the Instagram page of the charity trip.

Before that, M/S Alpo spent four days in the port of Caen. The tugboat arrived there on the Day of the landing of the Allied troops, June 6.

In particular, the tugboat team became part of the 80th anniversary commemoration of the Normandy operation, which opened the Second Front and marked the beginning of Europe’s victory over fascism.

Note.

The historic tugboat M/S Alpo, which took part in the Normandy landings in 1944, set out on its journey on April 27 from the city of Oulu (Finland), where it was located after the Second World War.

The initiators of the charity trip are the ship’s owners Jukka Juola, Markku Kankaala and Martti Haapala, who have supported Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, and specially repaired a ship from the Second World War for the project.

Since the beginning of the journey, the tug stopped in the ports of Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and finally France.

The goal of the project is to collect 100,000 euros for the “Safe Sky” charity collection of the UNITED24 fundraising platform.

M/S Alpo is now close to reaching its goal, having already helped raise more than €50,000. These funds will be used to protect Ukrainian cities from Russian missiles and drones.
