Illegal import of goods into Ukraine caused damage of 175 million in 2021

In 2021, the State Bureau of Investigation carried out investigations in 636 criminal proceedings in the field of violations of customs control.
During the year, the State Bureau of Investigation initiated 308 criminal proceedings in relation to such crimes, 124 suspicions were reported. 106 criminal proceedings against 124 people were sent to the court, for which the amount of established damage is UAH 175.6 million (USD 6.28 million).
Government officials are usually involved in crimes related to the illegal movement of goods across the customs border, the agency noted.
