Maximum safe drafts for vessels have been updated on the Danube

The Danube has updated the current maximum safe drafts for vessels in key sections of the river and in the region’s ports.

Avalon Shipping Operations Manager Kateryna Kononenko has released updated data on the maximum safe draft of vessels on the Danube.

According to her, as of now, the indicators are:

• Sulina — 7.01 m;

• Izmail — 6.61 m;

• Reni — 7.2 m;

• Orlivka — 7.02 m;

• Kiliya — 5.5 m;

• Vylkove — 5.5 m;

• Tulcea — 7.0 m;

• Galati — 6.5 m;

• Braila — 4.7-5.5 m;

• Giurgiuleşti — 3.9 m.

Kononenko noted that draft remains one of the key practical parameters for vessels operating on Danube routes.

She also drew attention to the fact that the update is taking place against the backdrop of new risks for Black Sea shipping and another increase in the queue on the Sulina Canal.

Earlier, USM reported that almost the entire Black Sea has been included in the zone of increased military risk: voyage insurance may become more expensive.
