Ministry of Development: Over seven thousand vessels passed through the Ukrainian Maritime Corridor

The Ukrainian Black Sea corridor has already ensured the passage of 7,447 ships and the transportation of 192 million tons of cargo.

This was stated by the First Deputy Minister for Development of Communites and Territories of Ukraine Alena Shkrum during the 10th anniversary event of the Three Seas Initiative Summit.

She noted that today the Black Sea for Ukraine is a matter of economic survival. Due to Russia’s actions, only 6 out of 18 Ukrainian ports are currently operating.

Despite this, the Ukrainian Black Sea corridor has already ensured the passage of 7,447 ships and the transportation of 192 million tons of cargo, most of which is grain for the world. Ukraine continues to ensure the food security of the countries of Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

“It is important to understand these figures in comparison: 7,477 ships during the war. Through the Suez Canal, for example, 20,000 ships pass through per year in peacetime.

Although, unfortunately, we can no longer expect a quiet time in global logistics,” Shkrum commented.

She added that Ukraine can share with the world its experience of resilience, protection of ports and transport, effective work under sirens, shelling, as well as protection from drones and new technologies.

Earlier, USM reported that the Middle Corridor is becoming one of the key security routes without Russia.
