More than 50% of Russia’s shadow fleet is already under sanctions, presidential spokesman says

Taking into account the recently introduced sanctions against the “shadow fleet”, the restrictions affected more than 50% of vessels transporting oil from the Russian Federation.

More than 300 vessels of the “shadow fleet” of Russia have been sanctioned. This was stated by the Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy Vladislav Vlasyuk, Ukrinform reports.

According to him, the sanctions package from the UK is “painful”, as it includes 40 tankers of the “shadow fleet”. Thus, together with the sanctions of the EU (introduced on February 24) and Canada (February 25), there are now more than 300 tankers subject to sanctions that transported Russian oil.

Vlasyuk also noted that the sanctions package introduced by the United States on January 8 dealt a significant blow to the Russian tanker fleet. The head of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, Elvira Nabiullina, estimated the impact of this package on the Russian economy at 1-1.5% of GDP.

Earlier, USM reported that the EU Council had imposed sanctions against 74 vessels of the “shadow fleet”.
