New fuel oil spills discovered on beaches of Russian Anapa after storm
After the storm on the night of January 1, new fuel oil emissions were recorded on the beaches of Anapa in the Krasnodar Territory.
On January 1, new fuel oil emissions were detected on the beaches of Anapa, related to the accident of Russian tankers in the Kerch Strait. This is reported by “Krym.Realii”
The total area of contamination in the territory of the Russian Federation is 63 kilometers: 19 kilometers in the Temryutsky district and 44 kilometers within Anapa. According to local authorities, more than 71 thousand tons of sand contaminated with oil products have already been removed from the beaches.
Recall that on December 15, two Russian tankers were sinking in the Kerch Strait. The first tanker to crash was the Volgoneft-212, which was carrying 4 tons of oil. An hour later, the storm hit the Volgoneft-239.
The cause of the accident was a strong storm. One of the tankers was cut almost in half by waves. As a result of the accidents, 4,300 tons of fuel oil and other petroleum products could have spilled into the sea.
In the worst-case scenario, cleaning the Black Sea of Russian fuel oil could take 10 years.
