New procedures are being prepared at Sulina to speed up the passage of ships

Sulina administration and ship agents discussed new procedures to speed up the clearance of vessels for entry and exit.

This was reported by Avalon Shipping operations manager Kateryna Kononenko.

According to her, a meeting was held this week between Sulina administration and ship agents. Among the proposed changes is the transfer of the maximum possible number of procedures to electronic format.

According to preliminary estimates, these measures should help reduce clearance time and increase Sulina’s transit capacity. However, Kononenko noted that the actual effectiveness of the new procedures can only be assessed after their practical testing.

At the same time, the situation with the water level in the Reni – 44 mile section is not improving. Currently, the maximum safe draft of vessels for Reni is 6.7 m. Because of this, vessels that are already loaded to a draft of about 7 m cannot exit through Sulina. According to Kononenko, one of Avalon Shipping’s vessels managed to reduce the draft to an acceptable level by deballasting and exit the port.

For other vessels that cannot reach the 6.7 m limit, the only option may be to partially unload the cargo before leaving.

USM previously reported that Romania plans to accelerate grain exports through the port of Constanta.
