SE “Odesa Container Terminal” helped HHLA increase international container turnover

German HHLA reported an increase in international container turnover by 21.5% in the first quarter of 2026, in particular due to the work of the KTO SE.
According to USM, citing a report by Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), despite the decline in container turnover in Hamburg, the company’s international terminals showed growth.
In particular, the container turnover of HHLA’s international assets increased by 21.5% to 88 thousand TEU. The company stated that the key factors were the increase in volumes at HHLA PLT Italy and the Odesa Container Terminal SE.
At the same time, HHLA’s total container turnover decreased by 5.3% to 1.46 million TEU, and in Hamburg the decrease was 6.6%.
The company explained the results by difficult winter weather conditions, changes in the work of maritime alliances and a decrease in cargo flows from North America and China.
Despite the reduction in transshipment volumes, HHLA’s container segment revenue increased by 4.6% to 215.9 million euros, while operating profit (EBIT) decreased by 28.6%.
HHLA CEO Jeroen Eisink said that the company continues to modernize and automate terminals to maintain efficiency in an unstable market.
Recall that SE “KTO” is the operator of the largest container terminal in Ukraine in the port of Odessa and is part of the German logistics holding HHLA, a leader in Europe. The terminal’s capacity is 850 thousand TEU per year.
