Poland will build new transshipment terminals in its ports

The European Union invested in the construction of intermodal terminals in the ports of Gdynia and Szczecin.

The EU financed the development of Poland’s transport infrastructure. For example, 129.4 million euros were allocated for the improvement of roads, railways and the construction of transshipment terminals in the ports of Gdynia and Szczecin, reports Gospodarka Morska.

Co-financing is 50% of eligible costs. Thus, the total investment cost is approximately 258.8 million euros.

In particular, the EU invested in the construction of an intermodal terminal in the logistics center of the port of Gdynia. Funding in the amount of 8.39 million euros was allocated for the construction. The investment will make it possible to serve the Logistics Center by rail thanks to the construction of freight tracks over 740 meters long, a loading ramp, an access track and related infrastructure.

The project for the construction of a multimodal railway transshipment hub on the Ostrów Grabowski peninsula in the port of Szczecin received EUR 4.35 million. It consists of two tasks: the construction of a railway transshipment station and the reconstruction of the ro-ro ramp, which will ensure the efficient transshipment of containers and military equipment.

Also, 64.47 million euros were allocated for the construction of dual purpose high-capacity road infrastructure. The project is part of the EU initiative “Corridors of Solidarity Ukraine-Union”. It aims to improve Ukrainian and Polish exports, as well as ensure the movement of military equipment.
