Russia has introduced the minesweeper “Afanasiy Ivannikov” into the Baltic Fleet

The Russian Baltic Fleet has received a new mine-clearing ship, the Project 12700 minesweeper “Afanasy Ivannikov”.

This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense, writes “Militarnyi”.

The flag on the ship was raised on May 7. The ship, built at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant in St. Petersburg, became the ninth minesweeper of this type manufactured for the Russian Navy. It was laid down on September 9, 2021, and launched in August 2024. Tests began in January 2025 and ended at the end of April, after which the acceptance certificate was signed.

Afanasy Ivannikov is the first Project 12700 ship to be included in the Northern Fleet. Other ships of this type are already in service in the Baltic, Pacific and Black Sea fleets of the Russian Federation.

Project 12700 minesweepers are designed to detect and neutralize sea mines.

Earlier, USM reported that a large invaders landing ship was spotted moored in Sevastopol.
