Russian defensive structures disappear near the Crimean Bridge: reasons

The spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmitry Pletenchuk, explained the possible reason for the disappearance of protective barges near the Kerch Bridge.

The protective barges that Russia deployed near the Crimean Bridge to counter naval drones could have “suddenly disappeared” due to a storm. This was stated by the spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk.

According to the representative of the Navy, the Russian army probably tried to deploy the maximum number of barges and other barriers before the start of the storm season, expecting their partial losses.

When asked about the effectiveness of the protection of the bridge, which is equipped with 18 barges, Pletenchuk noted that an objective indicator of effectiveness is that the structure is still standing.

“Apparently, it has some effectiveness. Especially if you take it together with other factors, such as patrolling from the water. Today, there is information that the Russian FSB has even started using coast guard boats. At least, these boats were caught on camera. This includes aviation, in particular, for this the Russians constantly involve helicopters,” the Navy spokesman explained.

Earlier, USM reported that over the past month the number of barges in the Kerch Strait has halved. Thus, Sentinel-2 satellite images from December 8 show that only 18 barges remain between Tuzla Island and the Kerch Peninsula, while the fate of the remaining 16 remains unknown.

Also, as USM reported, the invaders have strengthened the security of the Crimean Bridge.
