Switzerland has joined the sanctions against Russian LNG projects

Switzerland has fully joined the 14th package of EU sanctions against Russia.

On October 16, the Swiss Federal Council adopted the final measures from the 14th package of EU sanctions against Russia. This is reported by “Ukrinform”.

In particular, the new sanctions will affect the liquefied natural gas sector. From now on, investment in LNG projects in Russia, as well as the supply of goods for their construction, have been banned.

Also, from March 2025, the provision of transshipment services of Russian LNG on the territory of the EU, as well as the purchase, import and transportation of this gas through European terminals, will be prohibited.

In total, 61 legal entities were added to the Swiss sanctions list. At the same time, Swiss companies have gained the right to file lawsuits against sanctioned Russian companies for damages they have suffered due to unfair court decisions in Russia or third countries.

In addition, to prevent Russia’s influence on democratic processes in Switzerland, a ban on accepting donations from the Russian government by political parties, non-governmental organizations and media service providers has been introduced.

It is noted that the new sanctions will further limit the export of goods intended to strengthen the Russian industrial sector and military capabilities.

It will be recalled that in June the EU adopted the 14th package of sanctions against Russia due to its aggression against Ukraine. The new restrictions are aimed at the Russian energy sector and include measures against attempts to circumvent sanctions.

Also, USM recently wrote that Britain is investigating more than 30 cases related to the circumvention of sanctions by Russia.
