The captains of the Russian vessels were informed of the suspicion of stealing grain from Ukraine


Two captains of Russian ships are suspected of transporting Ukrainian grain through the temporarily occupied Crimea.

They face up to five years in prison, reports the повідомляє Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.  

We are talking about two citizens of the Russian Federation – the captains of the Russian vessels “Mikhail Nenashev” and “Zafar”.

It is known that in 2023 and at the beginning of 2024, the suspects, violating the legislation of Ukraine and the norms of international maritime law, carried out illegal activities and exits to/from the closed Sevastopol seaport.

“The ship was loaded with grain captured by the aggressor country in the occupied territories, without issuing any permits, and its subsequent illegal export outside the customs territory of Ukraine took place in the port,” the report says.

In particular, the captain of the ship “Mikhail Nenashev” made at least six illegal flights, the captain of the ship “Zafar” – two flights from/to the temporarily occupied territory of the peninsula.

Also, the suspects periodically turned off the AIS system and entered into it fictitious data on the course of tracking ships allegedly in the ports of the Russian Federation, Lebanon and Egypt.

According to the Main Directorate of the SBU in Crimea, we are talking about the captain of the “Mikhail Nenashev” Denys Nevyedrov and the captain of the “Zafar” Yurii Belyakov.

“It is known that at the beginning of 2024, Belyakov took 38,000 tons of Ukrainian barley from the Sevastopol grain terminal Avlita and illegally delivered it to Syria. It was also established that from the same terminal, in June 2023, Nevedrov exported 27,000 tons of Ukrainian wheat to Libya,” the department noted.
