The EU is preparing an embargo on Russian diamonds
The introduction of a new package of sanctions against Russia will be discussed at the summit of EU governments.
A summit of EU leaders will be held in Brussels from October 26 to 27. In particular, the heads of state will focus on discussing the 12 package of sanctions against Russia, reports “European Truth”.
The next EU package should include sanctions on Russian diamonds and aluminum, as well as further restrictions on the supply of dual-purpose goods. An important part of the new sanctions measures will be a mechanism to prevent their circumvention.
The leaders will also discuss the EU’s long-term budget for 2024-2027 and the EUR 50 billion aid fund for Ukraine.
According to the media, the G7 countries will announce a mechanism for limiting the import of Russian diamonds by the end of October. And soon the EU will finalize the proposal for the 12th package of sanctions against Russia.
USM recently wrote that Russia exported 13 billion euros worth of metals to the EU despite the sanctions. Minerals, which the EU considers “critically important” raw materials, still flow freely from Russia to Europe in huge quantities, providing crucial funds to state-owned enterprises of the aggressor country.
