The Russians are trying to trick GPS navigators in order to export stolen Ukrainian grain

The Russians are trying to deceive GPS navigators in order to hide the fact of illegal entry of ships into ports in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The Russian Federation is resorting to manipulation of AIS signals to hide the real number of ships entering the occupied ports of Ukraine. This was reported in the CTS.

For example, vessels located near the Kerch Strait can appear on traffic monitoring systems in completely unexpected places – for example, at airports.

“GPS spoofing, which distorts the location of ships, is actively used there. It is easy for specialists to see that, for example, a huge group of ships passing through the Kerch Strait are displayed in maritime systems as being located right at… the Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow,” wrote Andriy Klymenko, head of the Monitoring Group of the Institute of Black Sea Strategic Studies.

We will remind, as USM previously wrote, the Russians turn off AIS on ships to take out looted agricultural products and circumvent sanctions on Rosneft.

In addition, according to Klymenko, the Russian Federation actively uses EW tools to suppress AIS signals.
