The SBU detained a Russian agent who was spying on the ships of the Armed Forces in Odesa
The Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian agent who was spying on the ships of the Armed Forces near the Odesa seaport.
Counter-intelligence of the Security Service thwarted the aggressor’s plans to obtain actual information about the Defense Forces in the Black Sea, the SBU reported.
As a result of a special operation in Zaporizhzhia, an agent of the Russian military intelligence was detained, who was scouting the places of deployment and movement of Ukrainian warships.
In the zone of his special attention were the base points and the routes of going to the open sea of armored artillery boats of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In order to gather intelligence, the person involved acted under the guise of a long-distance truck driver who carries out interregional freight transportation.
While driving a truck, he entered the territory of the ports to receive commercial cargo, but at the same time he tried to covertly record the geolocations of the ships of the Armed Forces.
According to the available data, the invaders hoped to receive intelligence information for planning military operations in the marine waters of Ukraine.
The attacker was caught red-handed when he was following the ships of the Armed Forces near the Odesa Seaport and tried to report to the aggressor.
Also, during the investigation, it became known about the additional task of the Russian agent – to spy on the ground units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Black Sea coast.
Currently, the investigators of the Security Service informed him of the suspicion under part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). The perpetrator is in custody. He faces life imprisonment.
Earlier, USM reported that cyber specialists of the Security Service of Ukraine uncovered another informant of the Russian special services in the Mykolaiv region, who was collecting intelligence about the Defense Forces near the Black Sea.
Earlier, law enforcement officers detained another collaborator, who installed cameras near Mykolaiv port to spy on ships.
