UDS suspends work due to the silting of the Danube
PJSC “Ukrainian Danube Shipping” suspends the movement of barges on the Middle Danube due to unfavorable weather conditions.
As a result of the drop in the water level on the Middle Danube, UDS barges move with a minimum load of 1,000 tons per barge instead of the usual 1.5 tons. This was reported in the press service of the enterprise.
The situation is also complicated by unfavorable weather conditions and the accumulation of a large number of ships near Constanta.
“Periodic strong winds force port operations to be suspended. We lost five days in September and already several days in October. The shutdown of the port leads to the accumulation of a huge number of river vessels in the Chernovoda channel and traffic jams. At the same time, we lose three to four days in queues for the incoming and outgoing inspection in Galata,” the UDS claims.
Despite all the difficulties, a ship with a deadweight of 42,000 tons is currently being loaded with rapeseed in Constanta. A ship with a deadweight of more than 30,000 tons is approaching for a cargo of soybeans.
