Ukrainian agricultural producers get access to the Turkish market, – Ambassador

The agreement on free trade with Turkey will facilitate the entry of Ukrainian producers, particularly farmers, to the Turkish market.

This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey, Vasyl Bodnar, in a comment to Ukrinform.

The agreement is currently being ratified by the Ukrainian parliament.

“Thanks to the free trade agreement with Turkey, Ukrainian producers of industrial and partially agricultural products will have opportunities to access the rather closed Turkish market,” Vasyl Bodnar explained.

According to him, the agreement will also provide an opportunity to attract Turkish investments and create industrial parks that are progressively developing in Turkey, as well as to involve Turkish business in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

“Here we are talking about meeting our own needs, and about the possibility of supplying ready-made products, products with added value, so that it is not only wheat and oil, but also products with a significant added value “made in Ukraine”, – emphasized the diplomat.

The diplomat recalled that according to the Free Trade Agreement with Turkey, more than 90% of the industrial group and about 8% of the agricultural group of Ukrainian goods fall under the zero rate.

For certain product groups, in particular those not covered by the initial zero rate, transitional periods have been established. After the end of the transition periods of 3-7 years, Turkey will cancel import duties for another 1.5% of industrial goods and for 28.5% of agricultural goods.

“After the completion of the ratification procedure, a trade committee headed by the deputy ministers of economy and trade will be created, which will analyze the state of implementation of the Agreement, make proposals to the governments for its renewal or improvement, in particular in the conditions of the limitation of logistical capabilities due to Russia’s war against Ukraine,” the ambassador added.

It should be noted that the Turkish Parliament completed the ratification procedure of the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and Turkey at the beginning of August this year.

We will remind you that the Free Trade Agreement was signed on February 3, 2022, during the visit of the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Ukraine. The agreement with the applications was approved by him on August 1 of this year. The notification of the ratification of the Agreement was published in the Official Gazette of Turkey on August 2.
