Ukrainian ports have handled over 27 million tons of cargo since the beginning of the year despite the increase in attacks

Since the beginning of 2026 alone, 631 UAV attacks have been recorded on port facilities — ten times more than during the same period last year.

Despite constant shelling, since the beginning of 2026, Ukrainian ports have already handled over 27 million tons of cargo. This was stated by the head of the USPA Mykola Kravchuk during an off-site meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Transport and Infrastructure.

He called the support of the Defense Forces the second key direction. According to the head of the USPA, the work of ports today is part of a joint operating model of the state, the military and business, the main task of which is to ensure continuous logistics in wartime.

“Our approaches today are clearly defined. The first is security and protection. This is the basic condition for the operation of ports today. The focus is on systematically strengthening infrastructure protection and reducing operational risks. The intensity of attacks has increased significantly. In 2026 alone, attacks on port infrastructure facilities using 631 UAVs were recorded – this is 10 times more than in the same period last year,” Kravchuk noted.

A separate focus is on the energy independence of ports. Against the backdrop of systemic attacks by the Russian Federation on energy infrastructure, the USPA is working on backup power sources, decentralization of energy supply, and solutions that should guarantee stable operation of ports even during crisis situations.
