Artificial intelligence detects Russian ships hiding from Ukrainian drones
Artificial intelligence has learned to identify ships of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. The occupiers paint the ships so that they cannot be recognized.
Ship image analysis company Satim Inc has shown how AI can identify ships and submarines in radar satellite images, Naval News reports.
The system is 90% accurate. Satim demonstrated its capabilities using the example of the Russian Black Sea Fleet base in occupied Sevastopol.
Therefore, the artificial intelligence was able to accurately identify the cloaked ships using a radar image from the Umbra Space satellite. It is difficult for a person to recognize the type of vessels in such a picture, because the object may appear blurred or transparent, and some details may “overlap” each other.
The USM previously reported that the Russians are trying to disguise ships in the Black Sea using a camouflage scheme.
The invaders began to “color” their ships to confuse Ukrainian drone operators. The Russians painted the nose and stern of the frigate “Admiral Essen” with dark paint to visually “reduce” the size of the ship. The new attempt at camouflage is probably the reaction of the occupiers to the threat of maritime drones of the Navy of Ukraine.
It will be recalled that a similar method was used by the Nazi Navy 80 years ago. So, the German troops painted the battleship KMS Bismarck. However, they showed more imagination, and next to the darkened parts of the ship, they painted waves and a wake jet to make it difficult to assess the real size of the battleship.
