Romania plans to receive Ukrainian vessels on the Danube as soon as possible
Romania is trying to resolve the traffic jam on the Danube after the Russian attack on the port infrastructure of south of Odesa Region.
Romania plans to clear 30 vessels bound for Ukraine as soon as possible. This is reported by Reuters.
Currently, the Danube is the only water route for the export of grain from Ukraine. Even despite the Russian shelling of the port infrastructure, the Romanian authorities expect the peak of traffic intensity in the canal in August.
“We are trying to deal with the congestion of vessels as soon as possible to decongest the Danube,” commented Florin Uzumtoma, director of navigation at the Romanian Danube Management Agency, “We will clear about 30 vessels in two days, at least 12 today, if not 14, and the rest tomorrow.”
According to the official, in general, in May and June, Romania registered a record number of ships arriving from Ukrainian domestic ports — more than 477 per month.
