Ukraine plans to resume sea container transportation within a month
The first container shipments through the Ukrainian sea corridor can be carried out within two to three weeks.
This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Yurii Vaskov, Інтерфакс Interfax reports.
“All five container terminals are ready to process (Ed. — containers). Almost all of them are involved in transshipment of agricultural and other products. But the containers are a priority and they are negotiating. I hope that in two or three weeks we will receive the first measures,” said the deputy minister.
According to him, terminals and container lines will resume work in stages. The movement will start with feeder vessels, and container lines will follow them in the absence of incidents.
The deputy minister added that container services between Ukraine and Romania from the port “Reni” and between Romania and Turkey from the port “Izmail” already operate in the Danube ports.
UDS is already ready to transport containers up the Danube, but so far there have been no such transports.
In total, 1.8 million tons of cargo passed through the Danube in February — almost 50% of the maximum reached in 2023. Together with the sea corridor, transportation last month reached almost 10 million tons, or 75% of the pre-war volume.
As previously reported by USM, container transportation was initially planned to be launched via the Danube, and later – from the ports of Great Odesa.
