The EU will introduce tariffs on the import of Russian grain
The European Union is preparing to introduce tariffs on food from Russia and Belarus.
The European Commission is expected to impose tariffs of 81 pounds ($102.85) per tonne on grain from Russia and Belarus in the coming days, the FT reported, citing people familiar with the plans.
Tariffs of 50% will also be imposed on oilseeds.
Farmers in EU member states Poland, Hungary and Slovakia are reportedly demanding changes to restrictions imposed on them under the EU’s climate change plan.
They are also calling for the re-imposition of customs duties on agricultural imports from Ukraine following the EU’s decision in 2022 to abolish tariffs on Ukrainian food imports, which allegedly have the effect of reducing prices in the EU.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also called on the EU to ban the import of Russian and Belarusian agricultural products.

We will remind, despite the embargo on some types of agricultural products from Ukraine, Poland continues to import the same items from Russia and Belarus. Ukrainian journalists learned about it.
Probably, following this and after that, the head of the Polish government, Donald Tusk, said that Poland will study the experience of Latvia regarding the introduction of an embargo on the import of agricultural products from the Russian Federation and, perhaps, will soon take similar steps.
Agrarians from Lithuania sided with Ukraine the day before. According to farmers, a much bigger problem for the agricultural market is Russian grain entering the country.
