Countering China: The US wants to create a new naval alliance

The states are considering creating and leading a naval alliance that can counter China in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Naval Association will monitor the observance of maritime law, writes CTS.

Recent agreements with Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia give the US Coast Guard the ability to independently enforce maritime law in the region, demonstrating the potential for coordinated international efforts.

According to the US, China’s behavior “violates international law, remains unchecked, which requires retaliatory actions by stakeholders in the Indo-Pacific region.”

The initiative of the United States can be seen as a counterweight to China’s actions regarding Taiwan, as well as to contain the conflict between the PRC and the Philippines over the disputed Spratly archipelago in the South China Sea.

The other day, the Philippines once again accused the Chinese coast guard of harassing and damaging two of its ships in this disputed area.
