Large container lines do not allow their vessels to enter Ukrainian ports because of the war

Large container lines do not want to enter the ports of Ukraine with their own fleet while the war continues.

While the war is going on, large container shipping lines do not want to enter Ukraine with their own fleet, said Viktor Berestenko, president of AMEU and co-founder of the ITL group of companies, in an interview with Latifundist.com.

Last year in October, the company offered its service from the ports of Great Odesa to Turkey to large container lines. However, permission from the Navy of Ukraine was obtained only in February.

“So, one Ukrainian private logistics company, a member of our association (AMEU), took a ship on the market for rent (charter) and provides places on it for large shipping lines to load their containers with Ukrainian products from and to Ukraine. On April 3, this very ship arrived at the Black Sea port. In the near future, it should connect a large hub in the Mediterranean with the ports of Great Odesa,” Berestenko noted.

According to him, there was no direct arrival of containers to Ukrainian ports from China. Only a container ship with a capacity of 1,500 TEU with non-containerized cargo in big bags without a single container entered.

“But we hope that this very large ship will start a new direction for domestic container shipping. Perhaps such a ship will not be the only one,” added the president of AMEU.

Previously, USM reported that a container ship from China entered the port of Great Odesa for the first time since the beginning of the war.
