The US has warned of a threat to shipping companies from Russia

The US has warned its allies that Russia has targeted cargo shipping companies to disrupt the work of Ukraine’s partners.

Russia has previously carried out cyber attacks against shipping companies and ports, but its aggression is increasing, Bloomberg writes.

In recent months, the number of incidents attributed to Moscow has increased. In particular, we are talking about arson, vandalism, and jamming of GPS signals.

Last year, pro-Russian hackers attacked ports in Europe and Japan. The Asian country’s largest seaport has been hit by ransomware, which hackers use to block access to files or systems until payment is made. This, in turn, led to a failure of the container terminal and delays in the shipment of goods, and the websites of several Dutch ports became victims of Russian-engaged hackers.

“Russian intelligence has carried out sabotage attacks in a number of European countries, often employing local criminals. Its cyber and disinformation operations have long been aimed at the United States and Europe,” the article says.

It is also known that Russian hackers may be responsible for the cyber attack on DP World ports in Australia.

As previously reported by USM, Russia used GPS spoofing to falsify the AIS data of more than 80 vessels in order to violate sanctions.
