Britain introduced sanctions against gas carriers transporting Russian LNG
The UK has announced new sanctions targeting five vessels and two companies involved in the transportation of Russian LNG.
The sanctions are aimed at limiting the activities of the Russian project “Arctic LNG 2”, according to the website of the British government.
It is reported that sanctions have been imposed on vessels involved in the transportation of Russian LNG, which is an important source of funding for Russia’s war against Ukraine. In particular, Russia plans to significantly increase its share of the global LNG market from 8% to 20%, making this sector key to its economic ambitions.
Earlier this year, Great Britain already imposed sanctions against the Arctic LNG 2 project together with the USA and the EU, which led to a reduction in its production. Now the new restrictions have affected vessels that transport Russian gas.
The following gas carriers were included in the sanctions list:
• Pioneer (IMO 9256602);
• Asya Energy (IMO 9216298);
• Nova Energy (IMO 9324277);
• North Sky (IMO 9953523);
• SCF LA Perouse (IMO 9849887).
Sanctions were also imposed against two companies:
Ocean Speddstar Solutions OPC – operator of Pioneer and Asya Energy vessels;
White Fox Ship Management is the operator of the North Sky vessel.
These vessels are prohibited from entering UK ports. They may be detained, diverted or deregistered in the UK.
In total, Great Britain has already imposed sanctions against 15 vessels and organizations associated with the Russian LNG sector.
