Ukrmetallurgprom: Among the risks for metallurgy is the stoppage of the maritime corridor

The main challenges for the Ukrainian metallurgical industry are, in particular, the danger of stopping the maritime corridor.

The head of Ukrmetallurgprom named electricity, the threat to Pokrovsk and the sea corridor as the main challenges of the industry, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

Currently, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises are faced with three main risks: the possible loss of coking coal production in Pokrovsk due to the seizure of Pokrovske mine management by the Russian occupiers, the problem of providing electricity, and the danger of stopping the work of the sea corridor due to shelling.

According to Oleksandr Kalenkov, the president of the association of enterprises “Ukrmetalurgprom”, in the event of the loss of the coking coal mining enterprise, it will have to be imported, which will increase costs, approximately, by 35-40%.

Among the problems of MMC is also the increase in tariffs for freight rail transportation and for electricity.

In addition, the work is complicated by a lack of personnel, rising costs, military risks, and increasing export of strategic raw materials – scrap. Among the global problems is the dependence of the market on China for the prices of metal products.

Previously, USM reported that in September the ports of Ukraine processed 1.3 million tons of ore cargo.
