PACE demands stronger control of maritime transport to combat Russia’s shadow fleet

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe demands the introduction of additional control over maritime transport to combat the Russian “shadow fleet”.
This was announced by the People’s Deputy and member of the Ukrainian delegation to the PACE Oleksiy Honcharenko.
According to him, the PACE demands the following steps to be immediately taken:
• to strengthen control by states over vessels registered under their flag;
• to strengthen insurance supervision of vessels;
• to introduce mechanisms for tracking the transfer of oil from ship to ship.
Earlier, USM reported that a Russian ship for the first time openly accompanied tankers of the “shadow fleet” through the English Channel.
