All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council called on the authorities to unblock the import of nitrogen fertilizers through Ukrainian seaports

The appeal was sent to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko and the Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration Oleh Kiper.

The situation on the mineral fertilizer market is only getting worse due to their shortage, which may lead to a sharp decrease in yield in the near future, the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council reports.

In particular, a key factor in this is the ban on the import into Ukraine through sea ports not only of ammonium nitrate grade A, which is indeed an explosive substance, but also of other nitrogen fertilizers, which are completely explosion-proof.

VAR emphasizes that currently Ukraine is completely import-dependent in the field of mineral fertilizers, and fertilizers are applied precisely this season.

“Without this, it is impossible to ensure the future harvest. If the aforementioned problem is not urgently resolved, next year the country will face a 30% reduction in the yield of key crops and, as a result, a food crisis,” the letter warned.

Agrarians call on the Cabinet of Ministers and the Odesa Regional Administration to immediately return to considering this issue and ensure the unblocking of imports through the seaports of Ukraine of at least the following basic mineral fertilizers: KAS, ammonium sulfate, urea, potassium chloride, superphosphate, NPK 10-26-26, 8-20-30, 18-18-18, 20-20-20.

Earlier, USM reported that the Ministry of Development proposes to resume the transshipment of complex fertilizers in the ports of Ukraine. Control over compliance with security measures can be carried out by the Navy Command together with local authorities and relevant services.
