Ukraine may impose sanctions against fuel supplies from Constanta

The supply of petroleum products from the Romanian port of Constanta may fall under Ukrainian sanctions as early as October 1.

The reason was suspicions of the transit through the port of Turkish and Indian fuel, which is subject to additional control, enkorr reports.

This is about the expansion of laboratory tests of fuel, which will apply to fuel from Turkish, Georgian and Moldovan ports from 2023.

According to enkorr sources, the reason for the sanctions against Constanta was supposedly the port’s work with Turkish and Indian fuel.

The first attempts to sanction the Romanian port arose in the summer of 2024, but this decision was withdrawn due to diplomatic pressure from the European Union and Romania.

According to experts from the A-95 Consulting Group, the complication of supplies from Romania creates risks of fuel shortages, especially after the destruction of the Kremenchuk Ukrtatnafta refinery by the Russian army. And increasing fuel imports from the western border will be problematic at the moment.

Experts also emphasized that Ukraine will soon need winter grades of diesel fuel, and limiting supply opportunities may further strain the situation, especially against the backdrop of forecasts for the state of the energy system in the autumn-winter period.

Earlier, USM reported that Ukraine is limiting diesel fuel imports from India.
