Von der Leyen and Trump agreed to reduce Russia’s oil revenues

The leaders of the United States and the European Commission agreed on further steps to reduce the Kremlin’s energy revenues and increase pressure on Russia on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US President Donald Trump confirmed their common position on the need to reduce Russia’s revenues from the sale of fossil fuels. This was reported by the European Commission’s press service.

Von der Leyen recalled that this is precisely what the 19th package of EU sanctions is aimed at, which includes a ban on the import of Russian liquefied gas to European markets, as well as restrictions against oil refineries, traders and companies in third countries.

According to her, Europe plans to completely abandon Russian fossil fuels by 2027.

The security situation was also discussed during the meeting. Von der Leyen said that the Kremlin’s provocations, in particular regular violations of European airspace, are an attempt to test the West’s reaction. In this regard, the EU is accelerating defense efforts to strengthen the eastern flank, which should become a “shield for both Europe and NATO.” Separately, the President of the European Commission thanked Trump for his initiative to help return missing Ukrainian children, emphasizing the joint work of the US and the EU in this direction.

The day before, USM wrote that Russian oil product exports had fallen due to attacks on refineries.
