Romania evacuates residents of border village due to Russian attack on gas tanker in Izmail

A preventive evacuation was carried out in Plaur, Romania due to the risk of an explosion after an LPG vessel caught fire on the Ukrainian bank of the Danube.

About 15 residents of the village of Plaur in Tulcea county have already been taken to a safe zone after a vessel carrying liquefied petroleum gas caught fire in the Izmail area, Euronews reports.

According to local authorities, a total of about 100-150 people are planned to be evacuated.

The fire was caused by a Russian drone strike. According to Cristina Profir, a representative of the ISU Tulcea, the decision to evacuate was made due to the nature of the cargo and the potential risk of spreading the consequences:

At the same time, rescuers emphasize that the territory of Romania was not damaged, and the evacuation is exclusively preventive in nature.

The Orinda gas tanker delivered liquefied gas to Izmail. Previously, the crew was not injured.

As a reminder, on the night of November 17, Russian troops attacked the port infrastructure of the Odesa region with drones.
